Hero cops save life of baby found choking and ‘turning blue’ in supermarket car park
Two police officers saved the life of a baby boy by rushing him to hospital after finding him choking in a supermarket car park.
Senior Sergeant Rafał Radecki and Sergeant Łukasz Płonka were on a routine patrol in the western town of Sulęcin when they noticed a distraught couple in the car park clutching a young child.
“They screamed that their baby was choking and turning blue,” said Sergeant Płonka. “Our reaction was simple and rapid. We opened the police car door, they got in, we turned on the lights and the siren and drove to the hospital as quickly as possible.”
Once at the hospital, knowing that every second was vital, the policemen took the 10-month-old baby from his parents and sprinted down the corridors to the room where an emergency team of doctors and medics was waiting.
“We know this hospital and we know where to go,” Sergeant Płonka explained. “We didn’t want the parents wandering around the hospital not knowing where to go.”
CCTV footage from the hospital shows one of the officers running down a corridor with the baby in his arms.
Dr Marzanna Stupieńko from the district hospital in Sulęcin said: “An unconscious child was brought to us.
“After being treated the child regained consciousness and went to the children's ward and is in a good condition.”
The officers’ response to the situation has been praised by the police force.
Senior Sergeant Klaudia Richter from Sulęcin county police headquarters told TFN: “Both policemen are parents, they both have sons, and we know from their reports and from what they have told us that the situation deeply touched them.
“One said that while he was holding the baby he felt like he was holding his own child. The responsibility for the toddler was like that for his own child. It was parental instinct.
“Our men in uniform did a great job.”
