Here they come! De Niro and Nobu to open hotel AND restaurant in Warsaw
In the late eighties, Robert De Niro visited the sushi restaurant Matsuhisa in Beverly Hills for the first time and spent the next four years convincing Nobu Matsuhisa to open a branch in New York.
The rest is history, which now has its new chapter in Warsaw. In June, the luxury brand Nobu, founded by Matsuhisa, De Niro and Meir Teper, a film producer, will open its first hotel and restaurant in Poland’s capital city.
Designed by Polish architectural studio Medusa Group, the new Nobu Hotel Warsaw will be located on the corner of Wilcza and Koszykowa streets, in the quieter part of downtown Warsaw. The venue will be one of only 20 Nobu Hotels in the world.
Trevor Horwell, Chief Executive Officer of Nobu Hotels said, "This is our newest hotel in Europe and the start of an exciting future partnership. We are truly proud to announce Nobu Hotel Warsaw to our growing Nobu Hotel and Restaurant family.”
The hotel will have 117 rooms, expansive meeting and event spaces, a fitness centre and signature Nobu Restaurant, which was at the foundation of the entire brand.
The newly constructed building will encompass the existing historic tenement house of the Rialto Hotel, as well as a new structure with a façade of glass, stone and green terraces.
The interior design refurbishment will be a collaborative effort between Medusa Group and Californian-based, Studio PCH. Rooms will be divided into classic ones inspired by Warsaw traditions and modern and minimalistic ones in the new part of the building.
Karolina Kaim, president of Tacit Investment said: "Nobu is a global brand, recognizable thanks to the passion of its founders, exceptional service and excellent cuisine. In combination with Polish openness and energy, we will create an exciting and unique place that will win the hearts of visiting guests.
“We are especially pleased that we will be able to offer our clients the most famous dishes of the Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, served in Nobu restaurants around the world and for years well known as the highest quality Asian cuisine."
The Nobu brand started from chef’s Matsuhisa’s mastery of combining Japanese traditions with tastes and products he used while living in Peru, as well as from his friendship with actor and producer De Niro.
Since 1994, they have opened 40 restaurants on five continents. In 2013, they expanded into the hotel business, opening the first one in Las Vegas and later on in Miami, Barcelona, Manila and Ibiza, always following the Japanese approach to service and hospitality.
Nobu Hotels were been awarded a number of distinctions, such as the best new hotel from CNN Travel, the best city hotel from Wallpaper magazine, as well as awards for excellence and for the best hotel opening in North America by Luxury Travel Advisor.
