The wages of medical staff involved in combatting the coronavirus pandemic will be doubled, according to an order issued by Health Minister Adam Niedzielski on Sunday. The hike will embrace medical personnel, including paramedics and medical lab technicians.

The ordinance takes effect from the moment of its signing, that is, from Sunday.

Niedzielski told PAP that the decision was a gesture of appreciation for medical personnel employed on the frontline of the battle against COVID-19.

PM Mateusz Morawiecki said on Sunday that no one deserved the rise more than medical staff fighting the pandemic.

"The government wants to provide some special support for doctors and medical staff who are battling the disease. As of today, we are raising their pay by 100 percent. No one deserves this more than they do," the PM wrote on Facebook.
