Gov't debates coronavirus countermeasures

The current situation regarding the coronavirus and cooperation between specialised services and institutions in preventing its spreading to Poland were the subjects of Tuesday talks in the Government Security Centre.

Present at the meeting were officials from the Main Sanitary Inspectorate, the Health Ministry, the Foreign Ministry, the Interior Ministry, the Infrastructure Ministry and Warsaw's Chopin Airport.

After the talks the Government Security Centre informed that safety measures have been introduced for travellers to Poland from coronavirus-threatened areas. Among others, air travellers from such areas will be required to fill in a form containing their personal data and place of residence in Poland.

The coronavirus is assumed to have first appeared at a seafood market in the Chinese city of Wuhan. According to Chinese media the virus has to date taken 106 lives, with more than four thousand people infected. The virus has also been reported in France and Germany.

The coronavirus affects the respiratory system by inducing pneumonia. The disease can be fatal.

The Polish Embassy in China has informed that 27 Poles are currently quarantined in Wuhan and its vicinity. So far, none of the group has been diagnosed with the coronavirus.
