Gdańsk helps students get foot in the door

Over 370 paid internships have been offered to students and graduates in Gdańsk this summer as part of the “Vacation Internship” program.
In 2003, the Gdańsk municipality established the "Vacation Internship” project, in which large companies operating in the city offer paid internship opportunities for students and graduates. This year 82 companies and institutions have offered 375 paid internships at a salary of 1,400 PLN.
Over 900 students and graduates applied for the project, 80 percent of them students at the University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk.
The aim of the program is to help students gain new experience and skills in large companies and institutions representing a variety of areas including banking, tourism, financial, IT, hotel, cosmetics, accounting, media, telecommunications, development and many others.
The Gdańsk municipality hopes that the students' experience during the summer program will help them find work after completing their studies.
Last year, 376 internships were offered to students and graduates in Gdańsk, while the number of applicants was 1,400. Half of those who participated in the 2017 round took part in the project last summer received a permanent job offer and the option to remain in the company they held their internship. The internship period lasts a minimum of one month, and takes place between July and September.
"The variety of internship offers means that every student from a university or technical university can find something interesting for them and try their skills at business or other professional fields,” said the Press Office of the Gdańsk municipality.
Among the large companies and institutions that offered paid internship this summer were Gdańsk water and sewage company Saur Neptun Gdańsk, electronics company Flextronic International, the financial services company ARLA, Gdańsk Municipal Property Management, energy company LOTOS, Gdańsk Buses and Trams company, and the Gdańsk Museum.
