Gaz-System selects Baltic Pipe route
Polish gas transmission operator Gaz-System has chosen the preferred route for the Baltic Pipe, a gas transmission facility that will deliver Norwegian gas to Poland under the sea. The route will cover 275 km in total, the company announced.
The decision was taken on the basis of recommendations by the project's contractor, Ramboll.
Gaz-System decided on what was considered the most beneficial of the routes recommended by the contractor. The pipeline will be laid under Danish and Polish sea areas and the Swedish exclusive economic zone. They also picked sites for where the pipe will exit the sea onto land, Niechorze-Pogorzelica in Poland and Faxe South in Denmark.
Baltic Pipe will transfer 10 bln cubic metres of natural gas to Poland annually. Construction work on the pipe is planned to start in April 2020 and will last around two years. The gas transmission launch is scheduled for October 2022.
