Exhibition of Magdalena Abakanowicz works to open in Riga

An exhibition "Into the Space of Magdalena Abakanowicz. Textile and Sculpture" will open at the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Riga on Thursday.

The exhibition will feature over 20 works by one of the most well-known Polish artists worldwide, including Abakans (large-scale spatial textiles named in this way by the artist herself), sculptures and figurative compositions coming from Polish museums and collections.

According to the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, this is the first retrospective exhibition of Magdalena Abakanowicz's works in the Baltic States."

Magdalena Abakanowicz (1930-2017) was one of the most well-known Polish artists in the world. She worked with textile, sculpture, drawing and painting.

The exhibition will be accompanied by shows of a Polish Television production about Abakanowicz and a conference attended by art historians from Poland and Latvia.
