EUR 8 billion for Poland from EU Just Transition Fund
The EC's new EU budget proposal grants Poland EU 8 billion under a new Just Transition Fund, an instrument to aid the member states in adjusting their energy systems to climate demands. Poland would thus be the fund's biggest beneficiary.
The budget draft also raises the Just Transition Fund from the earlier-proposed EUR 7.5 billion to EUR 40 billion. The draft also grants the member states an extra EUR 30 billion to offset energy transition effects.
The Just Transition Fund is part of the EU's European Green Deal, a roadmap to move to a clean, circular economy, restore biodiversity and cut pollution. The EC expects the fund to activate at least EUR 150 billion worth of public and private investment in EU countries.
