EP to debate Poland on Monday

An EP debate on the situation in Poland is scheduled for Monday afternoon, EP press services informed PAP on Thursday. On the agenda among others will be Warsaw's rule of law conflict with the EC and the introduction of "LGBT-free zones" in some Polish regions.
The rule of law debate will focus around a critical draft report on the rule of law situation in Poland, prepared by the head of the EP's Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) Juan Fernando Lopez Aguilar.
The draft was passed by the Committee in July amidst protests by MEPs representing Poland's ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party. The document points to the steadily declining observance of democratic principles, rule of law and basic rights in Poland, visible among others in the functioning of the country's judicial system and electoral laws.
The MEPs will also discuss the recent introduction of "LGBT-free" zones by some local communities in Poland.
The parliament is to vote on the Aguilar report on Friday.
