Employers willing to hire retirement-aged staff could receive a PLN 1,800 (EUR 370) support bonus per employee over a period of 24 months under a new a government plan, the Fakt tabloid reported on Tuesday.

The bonus, designed to encourage the employment of older staff, is part of broader legislation aimed at increasing the professional participation of the elderly in the workforce.

The legislation, currently under preparation, is one of the "milestones" Poland needs to fulfil to unblock funding from an EU post-pandemic recovery fund, Fakt wrote.

The tabloid added that employers who decide to take the bonus will be obliged to employ the elderly staff for whom the money was received for over at least 12 months after the expiry of the bonus.
