Elvis Presley gets a star at the Avenue of Stars in Kraków

Elvis Presley was granted a star at the Avenue of Stars in Kraków. His fans took the initiative of commemorating the so-called King of Rock'n Roll. The City Hall has accepted the proposal.

Fans from all over Poland attended the celebrations, which were graced by a performance of Presley's songs performed by Szczepan Sollich.

"I have been a fan of Elvis Presley since 1961 (...) the Avenue of Stars in the city of kings is the right place for the King of Rock 'n Roll," the Deputy Head of Kraków's Elvis fan club Stanisław Sawicki said.

The Avenue of Stars, which is located close to the historic Wawel Castle in Kraków, was established by the city of Kraków and the private radio broadcaster RMF FM. Apart from Elvis Presley, others who have been granted stars on the avenue include music acts Celine Dion, Michael Jackson and Scorpions, as well as film director Andrzej Wajda.

The official unveiling of the Elvis star was held on Tuesday, on the day of a concert dedicated to the artist who died 41 years ago. Presley's ex-wife Priscilla Presley was the special guest of the evening at the Tauron Arena Kraków. The audience had an opportunity to listen to new arrangements of Presley's songs by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra.

The residents of the city of Kraków have already commemorated the King of Rock'n'Roll in other ways. The city has an avenue in his name and a monument devoted to the legendary artist. Thanks to the Elvis Presley fan club, which has been functioning continuously since the early 90s, the memory of Elvis is being kept alive in Kraków.
