Warsaw is preparing to welcome Georgette Mosbacher, a businesswoman who made her name in cosmetics, as US ambassador to Poland.

In her new role, Mosbacher will build on the longstanding ties between America and Poland, which range from business to defence, seeking to strengthen them further.

Poland is the 71-year-old entrepreneur’s first diplomatic posting. Born in Indiana, she went on to attend Indiana University. Since 1992, she has been head of Georgette Mosbacher Enterprises, a business and marketing consulting company.

A former CEO of cosmetics companies La Prairie and Borghese, she is also the author of two motivational books, Feminine force: Release the Power Within You to Create the Life You Deserve and It takes money, honey: A get-smart guide to total financial freedom. In 2016, she was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as a Member of the United States Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy.

“This year is special: it’s the hundredth anniversary of the restoration of Poland’s independence and I am so excited that the United States can celebrate this wonderful centennial anniversary with our Polish friends,” said Mosbacher, introducing herself in the video released by the US Embassy in Warsaw.

“A strong and secure Poland means a strong America,” she adds, highlighting the importance of defence cooperation between them, in the broader NATO context, as their soldiers work together within Poland and further afield.

In the video, Mosbacher also invokes her own background in business as she prepares to work with the American business community in Poland, fostering trade and investment between the two countries.

U.S. President Donald Trump nominated Mosbacher ambassador to Poland on 14 February and her nomination was approved by the Senate in July. She is expected to present her credentials to Polish President Andrzej Duda in September.

Mosbacher will take over from US Ambassador Paul W. Jones, who held the post from 2015. In a farewell video released at the end of July, he thanked Poland for his three years in Warsaw. “I will forever remain a friend of Poland and personally support relations between our countries,” he said.
