Polish folk band Tulia, who have taken the internet by storm with their quirky ‘screechy’ singing, have cancelled a planned NBA performance in America due to ‘visa issues’.

The performance, which was scheduled to take place on January 6th as part of the National Basketball Association’s Polish Heritage night, was going to be the band’s first performance Stateside.

The girls were looking forward to ‘wowing’ American audiences with their rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner”.

Just a month ahead of their performance, Tulia, spoke to TFN about their hopes for the show.

The statement was posted on the band’s fan page and reads, “We are really sad to inform you that due to reasons not attributable to the TULIA team, the performance at the Night of Polish National Heritage organized by the Foundation of Marcin Gortat MG13, on January 6, 2019 in Los Angeles, will not take place.”Tulia/Facebook

They said: “We hope that our performance will make Americans get to know and like Polish culture. Our interpretation of the US anthem may be surprising for them, but at the same time fascinating and beautiful.’

However, following an official statement on Facebook, the band’s event manager Igor Nurczyński told TFN over the phone: “I can’t tell you details but there have been problems with getting American visas.”

He added he was unable to comment further on the issue.

The girls’ official statement on their Facebook page said: “We would like to thank the employees of the Polish consular services as well as the representatives of the Independence Foundation for the fact that despite the holidays, they did everything to ensure that the band could perform in the USA.

The official statement released by the band hints that visa issues were the cause of the cancelled performance. Tulia’s Event manager, Igor Nurczyński confirmed this to TFN.Tulia/Facebook

“We would also like to thank all the media that supported us in recent weeks and, above all, thank our listeners, especially those in the USA who have been waiting so much for this performance.”

Fans have reacted with disappointment but also support for the 4-piece band from Szczecin.

One, called Barbara Lipska, posted: “It's a pity but you're great anyway.”

Follower Piotr Klimczuk commented: “It was a shame there was a great chance to appear on the American market ... but what is stopped will not be stopped forever... with your talent you can do everything.

While Przemyslaw Bogacz said: “Maybe go to Spain. You have a lot of fans here and no visas are needed. You are the best!

Though the girls have missed out on the performance this time, they are working on their new album for 2019.Tulia/Facebook

The girls, 20-year-olds Joanna Sinkiewicz and Patrycja Nowicka, Dominika Siepka, 23, and 25-year-old Tulia Biczak, first came together to form Tulia in 2017.

After having some bad experiences in other folk singing groups the girls formed their own group and filmed a rendition of British Rock band Depeche Mode’s "Enjoy the Silence”

The video was then noticed by Depeche Mode themselves and posted it on their official fan page.

The video went viral and the girls sent the internet into meltdown, racking up nearly 3 million views and 38,000 Facebook page likes since they released an official video of the cover on YouTube.

Although the girls have had to miss out on performing to American fans, event manager Nurczyński told TFN the girls will begin work on their third and completely original album which scheduled for release in the second half of 2019.
