The government will announce next week any decisions on whether to extend or ease pandemic restrictions, according to a deputy prime minister.

Jaroslaw Gowin said on Thursday that it was still too early to say if the rising Covid-19 infection count will warrant the extension of the current lockdown in Poland.

Speaking on Polish Radio, Gowin said that the pandemic was also worsening in neighbouring countries, and that now the major task for the government was the activation of a national vaccination plan.

He added that the government will announce any changes to lockdown regulations next week.

On December 28 Poland introduced a countrywide lockdown, including the closure of all hotels and skiing facilities and restrictions on shopping centres. The lockdown is to continue until January 17.
