Covid-19 takes toll on Polish medical staff - health ministry

According to the estimates of Poland's health ministry, Covid-19 has been the underlying cause in 166 deaths among healthcare workers in Poland.

"The coronavirus has contributed to the death of 74 doctors, 63 nurses, two laboratory workers, 12 dentists, five pharmacists, six paramedics and four midwives," the Ministry of Health said in a statement sent to PAP on Monday.

The ministry data also show that since the beginning of the epidemic in Poland, SARS-CoV-2 infection has been confirmed among several thousand medical staff, including 21,668 doctors, 1,717 laboratory workers, 54,264 nurses, 5,145 midwives, 3,167 paramedics, 2,043 dentists and 2,298 pharmacists.

Since March 2020, when the first case of coronavirus was detected in Poland, infections in 1,478,119 people have been confirmed, 35,401 of whom have died.
