A Lego cottage modelled on the rustic cabins of Podlasie is wowing the Lego-loving world and could soon become an official part of Lego’s collection.

Titled the House of Open Shutters and designed by a Białystok-based enthusiast, Łukasz Więcek, the project was entered into the Lego Ideas category of the firm’s website in mid-November, earning in excess of 10,000 votes in the space of just 10 days.

Więcek has captured the charm of rural life by including a warming log fire, candles and a bookshelf, as well as everyday details such as a box of chocolates sitting next to a pot of tea.Mateusz Duchnowski/Podlaskie Travel

Using around 3,000 bricks, it took Więcek approximately six weeks to finalise his design.

Introducing his concept on the Lego website, Więcek wrote: “The house I built has an open roof so you can see what it looks like inside; from the outside there are blue-and-white details on the house and its shutters.”

Surrounding it, further details include flowerpots, a bench, a well, picket fencing and two dogs guarding the couple that live inside.

Behind the door, Więcek has captured the charm of rural life by including a warming log fire, candles and a bookshelf, as well as everyday details such as a box of chocolates sitting next to a pot of tea.

Now, it will undergo expert assessment by Lego’s panel who will in turn decide whether to induct Więcek’s creation into their collection.

Quickly attracting a swell of comments, users of Lego’s website have been quick to applaud the work. “Praise the Lord of the Dumplings,” wrote one excited fan. “It’s like something from a fairy tale,” wrote another.

Others, meanwhile, have hailed the intricacy of the project. “I can’t imagine what a pleasure it would be to build this,” said one fan.

“It looks so difficult with its many details; a real must for Lego fans. But not only does it look beautiful, I can even feel the warmth of the atmosphere and the love shared between the couple living inside.”

Previously a contestant on the cult TV program Lego Masters, the idea for Więcek’s House of Open Shutters was born after he was approached by the Podlasie Tourist Office.

Asking him to create some Lego houses to showcase the region, further discussions led him to build the kind of charming cottage that the eastern province has become famed for.

Więcek said: “I want my building to show how beautiful it is to live in the countryside.”

Finishing runner-up in the first season of Lego Masters, Więcek has become one of the leading Lego modellers in Poland since catching the building bug seven years ago and has amassed a staggering 61,000 followers on his Insta channel (@lukasdata).
