Bus maker Solaris to deliver 250 electric vehicles to Milan

Polish bus maker Solaris Bus & Coach is to provide as many as 250 electric buses to Milan transport company ATM Milano with the first delivery of 40 buses scheduled to start in a year, the company announced on Tuesday.

Solaris stated that the framework agreement is one of the biggest tenders the company has won to date and the biggest in Europe concerning electric buses.

"The Milan carrier has an ambition to completely withdraw from conventional-drive buses by the end of 2030, and the producer of the Urbino (a Solaris bus marque - PAP) is to play a significant role in that electric mobility revolution," the company stated in a press release. "Thanks to the huge framework contract, Solaris has strengthened its position as a leader among European producers of electric buses."

Solaris said the total value of the framework contract could reach as much as EUR 192 million. Deliveries of the first part of the agreement, of 40 buses, is to commence in June 2020.

The vehicles decided upon by the Milan transport company are the Urbino 12 electric model, which currently runs in several dozen cities in 17 European countries.
