Berlin's public transport operator BVG has ordered 90 Polish Solaris Urbino 12 electric buses. The vehicles are to be delivered until the end of 2020.

The Poznan, western-Poland based Solaris Bus & Coach company which produces the buses said on Wednesday that the deal was one the biggest electric vehicle contracts in Europe, raising Berlin's Urbino fleet to 125 after Solaris' delivery of 35 electric buses to the city between 2015 and 2019.

The first Urbino will arrive in Berlin early next year, the rest will follow in three tranches over the year.

Equipped with a 300 kWh battery, the 12-metre air-conditioned Urbino can carry up to 70 passengers.
