Close to 42,500 Ukrainian refugee children have enrolled in schools in Poland, the country's education minister said on Tuesday.

Przemysław Czarnek said that financial instruments had been made available to support the establishment of preparatory units and the education of Ukrainian children and that Polish schools and local authorities have already organised nearly 500 preparatory courses for pupils who do not speak Polish.

According to him, preparatory courses are the best and most flexible form of admitting Ukrainian children to Polish schools.

"Learning in their own environment... will be less stressful for them," Czarnek said.

Around 1,830,000 Ukrainian war refugees have fled to Poland since Ukraine's invasion by Russia.
