Two thousand Polish soldiers will be assigned to 600 hospitals where they will assist in administrative matters including reporting on free beds for COVID-19 patients, Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak tweeted on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Health Minister Adam Niedzielski said he would ask for army support when it came to administering information on available beds.

He added that the military assistance resulted from a need often signalled by hospitals themselves. "It's hard for them to find personnel who could fill out the data (concerning COVID-19 beds) and we do not want that task to be done by people who could be caring for patients," he said.
