Almost half of Poles optimistic about future - poll

Forty-five percent of Poles believe that the situation in the country is heading in the right direction, while 40 percent of them claim the opposite, a survey by the CBOS pollster shows.

In comparison with the previous study, the percentage of optimists rose by 4 percentage points, while the proportion of negative assessments decreased by 1 pct.

As many as 15 percent of Poles had no opinion on the matter, down by 3 percentage points, the poll said.

"Opinions on this issue are also strongly associated with the declared political views of respondents, with the majority of respondents identifying with the right (72 percent) saying that the situation in the country is going in the right direction. On the other hand, 72 percent of people supportive of the political left expressed the opposite opinion," CBOS said.

Sixty percent of respondents expressed a positive opinion about the condition of the Polish economy, down 8 pps month on month, while 24 percent said the economy was doing badly, a decrease of 3 pps from the previous month.

CBOS ran the survey on June 15-25, on a nationwide representative sample of 1,378 Poles.
